JAPANESE STUDENT SEES BENEFITS OF FUNiX WAY
Shoya Hasebe, a student of Gakushuin University, expresses his interest in online study as it helps save him about 1.5 hours of commuting each day to university. With more time freed up, Shoya – an International Social Sciences major – decided to register for an online course and explore a field new to him–information technology.

Shoya Hasebe has been studying Data Science since mid-January and he is one of the first students at FUNiX Japan. The 22-year-old was surprised by FUNiX’s Supporting Support model (Hannah). Shoya describes Hannah as a close friend, who always accompanies him during the course and is available to answer any questions at any time.
“Hannah listens to everything I said and gives me strong motivation. I enjoyed sharing what I’ve learnt in the course with Hannah and am happy to see how she shows an interest in my learning. That is something I rarely experience every day–in a school where professors know everything, students don’t often feel much value in sharing knowledge.”

Shoya was also surprised with a team of experienced Data Science mentors, who are ready to answer technical questions and give him practical advice. Describing himself as not very sociable and enjoying spending time alone, Shoya finds studying at FUNiX to fit well with his lifestyle. “Before FUNiX, I studied online via Zoom since April of last year, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out and the school was forced to close. However, the FUNiX way of learning is different and interesting”, Shoya commented.
Shoya usually spends about 3-4 hours a day self-studying. He benefits significantly from being able to take charge of his online learning and study whenever and wherever he sees fit. However, the biggest challenge for Shoya is the unstable internet connection and the ability to balance his life.
“In addition to FUNiX, I have a lot of school assignments. My part-time job is quite busy as well. Sometimes, I found it difficult to arrange time. I set small goals every day and discuss with my Hannah to build a suitable study plan. I usually spend the mornings, when I feel the most awake, to learn Data Science”, said Shoya.
After two weeks of study at FUNiX, Shoya has gained more knowledge about Data Science and has understanded why this subject has become the inevitable trend of the future.
“I believe that possessing knowledge about Data Science will be very helpful for my future career as nowaday, almost everything in the world needs technology. I also believe in FUNiX, which helps me access up-to-date knowledge, practice self-study ability and give me an opportunity to easily connect with the techie community around the world”, said Shoya.
FUNiX Japan was present in Japan in early 2021. The platform has brought the FUNiX Way (Learning Content Leveraging Technology, Learning by Asking, Staying Motivated for successful self-study) to “the Land of the rising sun” . FUNIX Japan is working closely with FPT Japan, Japanese universities, associations and enterprises to provide the most practical and standardized online tech training program for Japanese learners.
Before FUNiX Japan, FUNiX had provided online tech training for several international universities in other countries such as Singapore, Indonesia … with the participation of nearly 100 international students.
